ServiceSolar installation

START WITH
YOUR ENERGY.

Residential and commercial solar designed around how the property uses electricity. We also check the supply, switchboard and roof, and allow for a future battery or EV charger.

What we help with

Common reasons we’re brought in

  • Electricity bills need to come down
  • Electricity use has increased and solar is being considered
  • A renovation, pool, air-conditioning system or EV will change electricity use
  • A business has significant daytime electricity use
  • The customer wants a solar installation that is planned in, not a tacked on afterthought
  • An existing proposal needs a more complete electrical assessment

How we approach the work

01

Read the site

We review how the property uses electricity, the supply capacity, the roof and the condition of the switchboard. We use that to decide on an appropriate system size and to identify any electrical work that needs to be part of the installation.

02

Plan the installation

We plan the panel layout, where the inverter and other equipment will go and how the cables will run, keeping in mind how it will look and how it will be accessed for service. If a battery or EV charger is already being considered, we take that into account when planning the current system.

03

Make the handover useful

We commission the system and provide the relevant documentation. We also explain how to monitor it, what normal operation looks like and who to contact if something changes.

Relevant capabilities

Residential solar, commercial solar, grid-connected system design, switchboard assessment, panel and inverter installation, battery-ready planning, testing and commissioning, monitoring and handover, and electrical documentation. Where they suit the job and the budget, we use Australian-made Tindo panels.

What we consider when designing a system

  • Current electricity use
  • Daytime loads
  • Supply and switchboard condition
  • Roof area
  • Shading
  • Existing and planned equipment
  • Battery or EV charging plans
  • Network constraints
  • Appearance
  • Service access

Worth knowing

Solar generates electricity but does not store it. Generation the property isn’t using at the time may be exported to the grid. A battery is required to store energy for later, and backup operation requires a separate assessment. Export arrangements depend on the network connection.

Network work

Where a project requires Accredited Service Provider work, we can coordinate this through our local partners. We have long-term working relationships with Level 1 construction, Level 2 connection and Level 3 design providers.

Questions people ask

How do you decide what size solar system suits the property?

We look at how much electricity the property uses and at what times of day, along with the supply, the switchboard, the usable roof area and any shading. If a pool, air-conditioning, a battery or an EV is planned, we include that too. The system size we recommend comes from that information.

Will the existing switchboard need to be upgraded?

It depends on the switchboard’s condition and the space and capacity it has. We check it before the system is finalised, and if work is needed we explain what it is and why, so it can be included as part of the installation.

Will solar operate during a blackout?

Not on its own. A grid-connected solar system shuts down when the grid goes down. Keeping power to some circuits during an outage needs a battery with backup capability, and that needs its own assessment.

Can the system be planned for a future battery or EV charger?

If you already know a battery or EV charger is likely, tell us at the start. We take it into account when choosing equipment locations, cable routes and switchboard space. We can’t promise every future addition will suit the system, but we can avoid choices that make the next step harder.

How do roof layout and shading affect the design?

The roof decides how many panels fit, which way they face and how they can be laid out. Shade from trees, nearby buildings or other parts of the roof reduces what the affected panels produce, so we look at where shade falls before settling the layout. We also look at the condition of the roof and how the finished array will look on the property.

What monitoring and documentation are provided?

Where the equipment includes monitoring, we set it up and show you how to use it, what normal operation looks like and who to contact if something changes. You receive the relevant documentation for the installation at handover.
